Describe an incident of failure in the workplace or studies. What was learnt from the experience?

My first job was as a waitress. I've dropped a tray of food, which was really embarassing. I have also given food to the customers that they did not order. When sending the order back to the kitchen on the computer, I have keyed in the wrong food or did not specify what the customer did not want on their food. All of this happened during the training period and after because even an experienced waitress will make mistakes! From my experience as a waitress, I learned that I need to listen more closely to people like when taking a customer's order. I learned how to balance trays of food and drinks properly. I also learned to slow down on the computer when sending orders back. Most of all I learned to be patient with customers because when their order is wrong then they are not happy at all and some people can be very difficult.

Adverblog projects

Facebook

This describes how on Facebook you can do virtually anything. You can throw a snowball at someone when it's Christmas time, make a frame for your photo album, create your own pet with Fluff-friends, send cupcakes to people, send a round of drinks to your friends, and more. This interested me because I think it is humorous how many applications there are on Facebook. Some are just out right ridiculous like "What Disney Princess are you?". I don't understand why anyone would care what Disney princess you are! LOL I find it absolutely amazing how much technology has evolved especially within websites such as Facebook and MySpace that we are able to include such things on our profiles.

Describe a project found on We-make-money-not-art.com. How does it provoke you? How does it comment on the curret social climate?

I chose the project called Interactive Installations for Clubbing. It is a project which is calling all interactive designers and artists to submit their work to be displayed on big screens in clubs. They are trying to make clubs more colorful instead of having the same old gray wall prison look. This project provokes me because I think it is the wrong way for any artist to display his or her work. When you display art, it should be displayed in a place where it will be appreciated such as an art gallery, museum, or art convention. In a club, people are hopped up on drugs and alcohol that they are not going to appreciate any of the images being projected onto the walls. When an artist or designer works hard on a piece of work, I think they should want their work to be appreciated and honored in a way. This project reflects our current social climate because they are trying to make clubs more exciting and better. They think if they project art work across the walls in the club that it would draw more people to that club. In order to keep up with society improvements are always needed. Therefore, it seems that more people today would be interested in clubbing at a colorful and vibrant club versus a dull and plain club. Society will always change, so by next year we may be back to wanting prison like clubs! Overall, in order to keep up with society we are always making improvements in order to catch people's attention whether it is a new product from Sony or if a new club has opened in a big city like Sydney.

What is your current understanding of the social climate?

My understanding of our current social climate is that it is fueled by power, money, and materialism. We are always pushing ourselves to get the best job and make the most money. We are constantly competing with each in order to be on top. When we're not on top, we feel as if we have failed which in turn can empower us to get back out on the playing field and continue competing. Materialism fuels our current social climate because once we have power and money, we want the designer clothes, newest cars, entertainment systems, and more. Even when we have all of those things, we still want more in order to fit in with our society. It is an endless vicious cycle. Therefore, our current social climate will be satisfied but hungry for more when it gets what it wants, and frustrated when it doesn't get what it wants which then instills the need to be more competitive.
